Decolonizing the Mind: Michael Yellowbird, Ph.D.

March 14, 2019 @ 7:30 am - 9:00 am

Hanna Institute is proud to welcome Dr. Michael Yellowbird as our first featured speaker of our 2019 Professional Networking Breakfast Speaker Series. Dr. Yellowbird will offer insights into decolonizing the mind through indigenous mindfulness practices and its capacity to foster more equitable communities.

Dr. Yellowbird, coauthor of For Indigenous Minds Only and Decolonizing Social Work, is a citizen of the Three Affiliated Tribes (Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara). He has taught at the University of British Columbia, University of Kansas, Arizona State University, and Humboldt State University, and is professor and director of the Tribal Indigenous Studies program at North Dakota State University.

His teaching, writing, research, and community work focus on Indigenous Peoples’ health, leadership, and cultural rights; decolonizing social work approaches; decolonizing war and military service; neurodecolonization and mind body approaches; neuroscience and Indigenous Peoples; traditional mindfulness and contemplative practices; and the Rights of Mother Earth.

Breakfast will be served.
